Jill Boyat Scholarship Foundation

The Jill Boyat Scholarship Foundation, in collaboration with the REACH Mentoring Program, is pleased to announce an area scholarship provided to area youth who have been involved in the REACH mentoring program.

This scholarship is available to all area high school seniors in Carlton County. One area student will be chosen each year to receive this scholarship.

As a result of fundraisers held by the REACH Mentoring Program during the year, as well as individual donations by the Boyat family, one student will receive a $500 scholarship award to be used for studies at an accredited college or university during the upcoming academic year.

Jill Boyat was a remarkable woman who was a loving daughter, sister, friend, wife and mother of three young children. She began her career as a Carlton County deputy and later transferred over to Carlton County Human Services as a social worker working as Family School Support Worker. Her heart was in helping youth and one way she was able to do that was through mentoring. Jill died of colon cancer at the age of 39. Jill was very active with the REACH Mentoring Program so along with Jill’s family, they wanted to remember Jill for all the goodness she stood for – a scholarship was started in her name in 2009.

We have the honor of presenting the Jill Boyat Scholarship to a senior at Cloquet High School. The Jill Boyat Scholarship recipient for the year 2018 – 2019 is Nicolas Smoczynski. The REACH Program along with the Jill Boyat Scholarship Foundation wish Nicolas the best with his future endeavors.
